1X01 DEEP THROAT ******************************************** Date: 06/10/02 08:08:07 PM Name: Nancy Spoilers, if you've never seen it. "That was extreme." - Emil This was a good ep. :) As Scully learns what's going on, as Mulder explains what *he* thinks is going on, Deep Throat does a good job of continuing to introduce the audience to the mytharc and government conspiracy elements of TXF, but without ever giving you that baseball-bat-upside-the-head feeling. Though Scully's theories sound just as plausible as Mulder's, with the little lights in the sky and Deep Throat's "They've been here for a long, long, time," the ep declares that 1013's pov is that aliens do indeed exist and have visited this planet. Deep Throat is one of the few TXF episodes where nobody dies. *keeps track of these things*. Why did they break into Budahas' house with the wife right there? Didn't she have a key? I like the hamburger/UFO metaphor. :) Scully's strengths come out nicely in this ep. I like how she was smart and cool enough to memorize the license plate numbers of the MIB's cars while they were frisking the agents and taking their film. She looks little (I guess she didn't stand on a box in this ep), and the ponytail makes her look young - this contrasts with her going up against the reporter/military guy, physically and psychologically beating him. "You just keep telling yourself that." Ha! :-) Also, her rescuing Mulder at the end shows her as an equal partner in the X-Files, when the character could have easily ended up as a weak-little-female damsel-in-distress who just drags along to snitch on Mulder in her field reports. So then, Mulder doesn't remember the flying thingy with the lights inside the air base? Eye drops are a part of the mindwiping procedure? Another example of TXF's breaking with the storytelling cliches: the hero has weaknesses. I was surprised that Mulder got caught by the military officers (or whoever they were) when he was inside the air base. Hollywood just didn't do that back then, but it worked well with the story, and made Mulder a more lovable character. -Nancy ******************************************** Date: 06/10/02 08:57:24 PM Name: shadow_prophet xXxXxXxXx Mr. Mulder, they've been here for a long, long time. --Deep Throat, "Deep Throat" :-P xXxXxXxXx Terrific episode! Wow, this was so good :-D. It has been ages since I've seen Deep Throat, and watching it tonight I am struck as to how superlative it really is. The government is evil, the aliens are real, it was there all along! And this second episode of Season One set it up perfectly. The image of the burned Budahas shaking in his Tighties is forever ingrained in memory. I wish it wasn't %-). Seth Green, the male half of the ditsy teen duo plays is better known as Scott Evil in the Austin Powers franchise :-D. He does a terrific job here, demonstrating the hover qualities of the UFOs with his hamburger. GA and DD both have new haircuts by the time the series was picked up, an early version of her famous bob for Scully, and some horrid peacock hair mousse/Brill Cream creation for Mulder. Glad that didn't last too long :-D. Aside from superficialities, this episode was superb because of what it set up. We know now that the gov't is evil. We have something on which to base our assumptions, not just Mulder's word, and the presentation of the story effectively engages even the most casual viewer. IOW, an X-Files virgin would have a very hard time looking away (even at the image of Mr. Budahas :-P ). Because there is so much left unsaid and uncovered, I believe this episode was effective in that there are too many questions to answer... too many layers to the conspiracy. What is happening to the fighter pilots? Are the plans gov't, UFOs or some of both? Why does this mysterious man want to help Mulder? It's terrific, too large to attempt, so in the breadth of this episode, there are more questions than answers. Questions that according to Scully, "We have no business asking." Random Observations: Mulder's little kitchen is sad :). I imagine he was cooking something like tomato soup, LOL, or Ramen noodles :-)Oooo. The MIB scene kicks ass, as does Scully's gun action with the airport security man. Don't you love it?! "Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that." Stellar! The army wives make me nervous. The whole town does. They're in on it. Or they're aliens, the whole lot of 'em. <:-). Mulder pees in this ep too, LOL. That makes three Urinating!Mulder scenes as far as I can remember. FTF, Deep Throat, and The Truth. Anyone remember another? He mentions having to pee in The Drive :-). I like how Mulder rips Scully out of the car when he saw the flying objects. That would be me! I'd be freaking :=o. Doesn't it always seem like Mulder is getting caught by the bad guys? But they let him go, right, cuz he's part of a larger picture. Riiiight. :) When he came staggering to the car after being prodded by the military, I was thinking, "I've had mornings like that." X-) It's score according to my grading system? Definitely a three-umbrella drink X-). Served in a plastic bong-shaped tumbler two feet tall, and flaming. Woo hoo! --Brandi~ -0-0-0- You're not here to raid my minibar, are ya? --Mulder, "Deep Throat" [Spinning wheel] "you're getting very sleepy... |-) ...very relaxed..." [Spinning wheel] The Truth Behind the Conspiracy: The [alien]s betrayed the conspirators. While they were assuaged somewhat by the "peace offering" of the Syndicates' tots, what they *really* wanted they never received: Coffee. And who can blame them? In a caffeine fit, they decided invasion wasn't such a bad idea, after all. :-) Death to decaff! Bring it on! :-D [coffeecup] [alien] [coffeecup] [alien] ********************************************
