Clark K (Kent) Potter is an oddity: he is aware of the Syndicate and CSM, yet is neither a member of said conspiracy, nor considered a threat to it.  Clark is a skilled collector of information, determined to know everything about the case that he is involved in. Obviously, he realizes he won't accomplish this goal in reality, but when questioned about it, he smiles and replies, "Knowledge is everything."

Potter shares many characteristics with a stereotypical Agent of the FBI, but for one thing: he doesn't stumble around in the dark looking for clues, he has a very keen mind and he seems to see what happened just examining the crime scene. But his colleagues and the few friends he has (Mulder, CSM, Hans Guerney (see below)) doesn´t know the real Clark.....

His real name is Robert David Eath and he was the only son of Carl and Marie Eath, two English emigrants with connections to the Royal family, this however is not known to ANYONE in America and only to a handful of people in Britain, mainly people with close ties to the royal family, the Eath´s were close friends of Edward VIII and the Eath´s moved to the US. after his abdication in 1936. A scholarly boy, as Clark gathered high marks in all of his classes but otherwise failed to distinguish himself during his formative years.

His discreet background and obvious intelligence did appeal to someone and he joined the FBI right out of college, after majoring in criminal law. After an exemplary career as a investigating special agent, he was offered a leading position at the CSI Branch in his hometown of Memphis. He later requested transfer to Washington after joining "The Niederlender" and he assumed the leadership of the CSI Office in Washington only weeks after solving a case involving a massmurderer in Georgetown.

Most of the time Clark labors away on the streets of  Washington, processing information from Crime Scenes, his area of specialty being historical serial and cult-related killings. Potter enjoys this work and spend several hours a month going trough his old cases. Clark rarely ventures into the hallways of the Hoover Building, preferring investigation over deskwork. On occasion, however, a case proves unexpectedly hard to break and the brass begins to complain or the targets of an investigation lash out at the CSI team to which Clark has taken a fancy, and he responds with savage ferocity. In these cases, Clark displays only the minimum diplomatic competence necessary to defend himself or his team – it’s clear to everyone that his expertise is investigation and field operations. He is also one of two survivors from a shadowy group called "The Niederlender", a gathering of FBI Agents, DEA Operatives and Federal Scientists. The sole purpose of the group was to build a Super Soldier by introducing new drugs into the subject, they were working alongside the group that created Shannon McMahon and they were close to success when the
US Dept. of State Mobile Security Division kicked down the door and stormed the building during a late night briefing, all members of the "Niederlender" died in the raid, or so it´s said officially (thats Officially hush-hush, OFFICIALLY the MSD killed several members of the anti American Dijaba Cult that were performing human sacrifices.) In reality both Potter and one of the DEA Operatives, Hans Geurney, escaped during the firefight.

As Clark returned to his apartment, covered in blood and carrying several laptops, he encountered AD. Skinner in the stairwell and a short scuffle ensued where Skinner gained the upper hand, after being forced to explain himself Clark was released by Skinner who could not prove any real crime except the shootout with an armed Federal Strike Team and that could have been called a act of self defense. Skinner regards Potter as a person that he needs to keep a eye on but he still wont give him away as he might need the information that Potter has.

Potter maintains an extensive network of contacts, which he compensates in various fashions. Most of his contacts are criminals or intelligence agents. In return for their assistance, he aids them in staying one step ahead of their enemies (the police or agents of other powers). Thanks to his array of information sources, he has pieced together a great many of the Syndicate´s secrets, including a great deal of knowledge about the various organizations that come under the Conspiracy´s umbrella, as well as their foes but as mentioned earlier the Conspiracy dont consider him a security breach.

Potter lives in the same building as AD Skinner, he also owns a house in Georgetown, the basement of which has been converted into a high tech "nerve center" for his activities, where he spends the vast majority of his free time going trough Agents Mulder and Scully´s previous and present cases as well as working on the "Niederlender" Project.
